The settlement

The Amazon return-refund settlement, in plain words.

A federal class action — In re: Amazon Return Policy Litigation, Case No. 2:23-cv-01372-JNW — charged that Amazon failed to complete refunds it owed buyers, or charged refunds back. Before settling, Amazon had already paid out over $600 million in individual refunds. The settlement adds a $309.5 million fund. This page is the map: who's in, which subclass, what to file, and — just as important — who's not in, so nobody sells you claim help for a case the settlement can't pay.

The windowReturns of physical products initiated September 5, 2017 through February 12, 2026.
The fund$309.5 million, non-reversionary (what isn't claimed by the class doesn't quietly return to Amazon), on top of the $600M+ already paid out individually.
Subclass AAmazon's own records show your refund was unpaid or incorrect. Paid automatically — no form. Subclass A is about 92.7% of the net fund.
Subclass BYou believe Amazon owes you from a covered return, but its records don't flag it. You must file a claim form by December 1, 2026 — the same date as the opt-out and objection deadlines — or the settlement pays you nothing.
The hearingFinal approval hearing: March 16, 2027. Payments follow approval.

Which side of the window are you on?

Return inside Sept 5, 2017 – Feb 12, 2026

You may be in the class. Check whether Amazon's notices flag you for automatic payment (Subclass A). If not, and you believe a covered refund failed, file the Subclass B claim form by Dec 1, 2026. Meanwhile, your own direct fight doesn't pause — the claim and the appeal are parallel tracks. How to file →

Return after Feb 12, 2026

The settlement cannot pay your case. Anyone selling you "claim help" for a 2026 return is selling you a form for a fund you're not in. Your fight is the direct one — and it's a live fight, because Amazon's return system produces the same failures today: took my refund back · never arrived · empty box.

Return before Sept 5, 2017

Outside the window on the early side. The settlement doesn't cover it; a direct claim at this age is a records fight — start with the checker and honest expectations.

Scam warning, because it is already predictable: settlement waves attract fake claim sites and "filing services" that charge fees to submit a free form — or harvest account details. The claim form is free, it's at ReturnSettlement.com, and no legitimate door in this process will ever ask for your Amazon password. We never ask for your login either.
