The closure

"Voided." What Amazon did to your balance, in its own words.

This page is not a balance checker — if you want to see a balance on an open account, Amazon's own site does that. This page is for the other sentence: the closure email that says your remaining balance was voided. Here is the clause that did it, the exception printed in the same terms, and what remains after it.

The clause, verbatim

Amazon's Gift Card Terms & Conditions, as published:

"We reserve the right, without notice to you, to void Gift Cards (including as a component of your Amazon Balance) without a refund, suspend or terminate customer accounts… if we suspect that a Gift Card is obtained, used, or applied to an Amazon account… fraudulently, unlawfully, or otherwise in violation of these terms and conditions."

Three facts live in that sentence. First: the standard is suspicion — no proof, no hearing, no stated evidence. Second: the same terms say balances are not refundable "except as required by law" — and the law, in roughly a dozen states, requires cash redemption of small remaining balances on request. Third: the gift-card terms publish no appeal process at all. Every door for a voided balance comes from outside the gift-card terms — the closure letter's own reply route, executive relations, the BBB, state consumer protection, and small claims.

What decides the rare wins

Strip away the folklore and the documented exceptions share one asset: the purchase receipts. A balance built from cards bought at real retailers, with receipts and the physical cards kept, is a fact pattern that can beat "we suspect." A balance built from resale-marketplace cards, no receipts, is the pattern professional advocates report never winning. Between those poles lies your case — the checker grades it honestly, and the trapped-balance page lays out the full fight with its odds in writing.

One more distinction that matters: if your account is open and only a single card was voided, your case is smaller and often more winnable than a full closure — the same doors, a narrower ask (the card's value, the receipt), and state cash-out law may apply to what's left.

Not sure which fight you're in? The free checker sorts it in four picks — what happened, the proof you hold, one date — and gives you your door, your steps, your deadlines, and an honest grade of your case. Run the checker →
